The Creative Writing Scholarship Program provides young writers with the opportunity to showcase their talent, receive financial support, and gain access to valuable resources that will help them grow as writers.

Why Apply?

2 applicants will be selected from each round.

1 Grand Prize Winner will receive $500 to be used in advancing their writing skills, along with the opportunity to meet 1:1 with a local, self-published author. See below for guidelines on acceptable use of funds.

1 Runner Up will receive 1 (one) Amazon Kindle Scribe e-reader with digital notebook features to encourage reading, note-taking, and writing.

Both recipients will have the opportunity to be featured on our website.

Scholarship recipients will also have the opportunity to meet with a local author to receive 1:1 support.

  • Youth writers ages 10-17 who are currently enrolled in a Rhode Island school.

  • The scholarship funds awarded to recipients must be used for educational and creative purposes directly related to the development of writing skills and literary pursuits. Eligible uses include, but are not limited to:

    1. Educational Expenses:

      • Tuition, enrollment fees, and educational materials for school or writing-related programs.

    2. Creative Development:

      • Supplies and resources for writing projects, including writing tools, software, and competition entry fees.

    3. Technological Tools:

      • Purchase of technology such as laptops or tablets, and writing software.

    4. Books and Literature:

      • Acquisition of books, e-books, and audiobooks to support reading and inspiration.

    5. Mentorship and Coaching:

      • Fees for writing mentorship, coaching, and participation in literary retreats or residencies.

    Recipients must provide documentation and receipts for all expenditures to ensure compliance with these stipulations. The scholarship funds must be used within [specific time frame, e.g., one year] from the date of the award.
